By Hannu Koivuranta, Scriptwriter, Director of Photography and Lighting Lead:
The idea for this animation came from our director and second scriptwriter Outi – while on a train. It started off as a simp le, single image idea much to the likes of Creature Comforts and Minuscule. The main event of that version was two turkeys making fun of a rather large cow eating grass at the horizon.
Skip 2-3 months and we started finally realising the project with our producers. We didn’t have a script then, but we were eager to find out if people would like to be a part of an animation project. Luckily they were, but on the other hand, it would’ve been nice to have finished the script before taking time to get people enthusiastic about the whole project. If you didn’t read it clearly enough: you need a solid, structured script to be making an animation of this size.
Nothing went haywire and there actually was a clear benefit of not having finished the script beforehand. This offered us the opportunity to work on it with the producers, who helped us brainstorm the core story, the seed, which is ultimately the first thing to create. I know it may sound very dull to some people who are more tech-savvy, but simply put: you cannot make a good, even an ok animation without a detailed script. Everything affects everything. Go make one hasty decision without a production plan or a script to back you up and you’ll see the house of cards crumble down eventually.
